confirmation

Confirmation at Zion is a three year experience offered to all children during their 6th, 7th and eighth grade years. Confirmation meets on Wednesday, 6:30-8 p.m. from late August until mid-May. Participants are also expected to regularly attend worship and Sunday School on a regular basis. Luther’s Small Catechism is taught, using a variety of techniques including:

Large group presentations led by Pastor using the textbook: Here We Stand

  • Small group discussions led by volunteers, often parents, grandparents or other interested adults, using provided lesson plans or self-planned activities that reinforce theme of the week.
  • Mentors. Each student is expected to have a mentor. A mentor is an adult whois selected by the student and his/her parents; who is a member of Zion; who is   not related to the student; who is comfortable with student and able to spend time with him/her;
  • Special events. These evenings take place during the regular Confirmation meeting time and include guest speakers, service opportunities, reinforcement games and team-building activities.
  • Eastern Conference Gathering. Confirmation students from all the Eastern Conference of the NW Ohio Synod congregations gather for an evening of music, games, food, and time to get acquainted with their peers. Often the Bishop of the NW Ohio Synod attends and interacts with the students.

The Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) is usually Mother’s Day during 10:30 worship. Parents, baptismal sponsors/godparents, and mentors are invited to be part of this experience.
